Jesus Christ Is God – The Light And The Word – Part 1 of 3

Passage: John 1: 1-5
Service Type:

So, a little bit of background about this. It’s about my journey with this passage or pericope with Scripture. As I was looking at this my meal, my initial idea as I began planning to preach through the Gospel of John or his of John’s gospel was to cover verses 1 to 18 in one sermon. I quickly realized that this would just not do. You see, it is crucial. It is critical. It is so important that the Christian have a good grasp of what John is talking about in these verses. For indeed, these verses perhaps make the kernel make up the kernel of your testimony. For the non-Christian, then, it is critical that you come to know who John is speaking about, because for you these verses are a matter of life or death.

In this introduction, John presents a choice for the reader, not that we choose salvation. But as the reader reads these verses, they either acknowledge or they do not acknowledge that Jesus Christ is who He is. Jesus Christ is the only word become flesh and He is the only Life and Light. A statement to which you the blood washed Christian, who has been bought with the precious price of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, may respond with something along these lines. Well, of course. Well, this is absolutely true or yes, it is obviously true. However, there are others who, while claiming to be Christian, their response will be more along the lines of. Well, now that you mentioned that I I’m not quite sure. I’m not quite sure that Jesus Christ is the only word. I’m not quite sure that He’s the only Life and the only Light. You see, the falling condition of man prefers not to be limited and subject to one light. You see the falling condition of man if they… they understand that if they are, they are submitted to one right and… and one life that’s to whom they need to answer, and that’s to whom they need to give obedience. And the fullness in man does not want to do that. Man would rather want to be obedient to himself. See that condition in man puts himself at the centre of his existence as a little god. And therefore, does not want to take the singular position that Jesus Christ is the only word become flesh, and the only Light. To give you an idea of what I’m talking about, some proclaimed pastors and teachers when asked the question is Jesus the only way respond along these lines? Now I’ve not mentioned the people quoted, but these are quotes. We come from… certain pastors… to teach people that Jesus is the only way to be saved from the wrath of God is unloving! This is not the actions of a loving God. Truth is better than that, and the truth is, love rules! Then when asked this question is Jesus the only way, another man responded in this manner when he was asked, do you believe that only Christians can be in relationship with God? The response was the answer. No. I believe that when Jesus said I am the Way the Truth and the Life – the way I read that – Jesus said He is the road marker. He is the map. So, I think God loves people so much that whether they accept or reject Him, He is still gracious…. He is still moving. He is still giving you massive red blinking lights for chances to take a right turn when maybe. You would take a lift. Then you get the opinions or the attitudes that are and movements that are perhaps more non-confrontational in their approach of denying Christ as they directly target the emotions and sentiment of men and women. Take the deconstruction movement or as it’s called ex-vangelical… evangelicalism, for example. This opinion basically dissects the tenets of our Christian faith and determines if they are relevant or not. Basically, those in this movement investigate the core principles of our Christian faith. Then, based on their understanding of truth and love, they determine what is acceptable and unacceptable. They take into account the moral and ethical condition of people today and say that the condition of man is the truth, and the Bible needs to conform because it is becoming a little bit outdated. There is a drive in our contemporary society to not only deny the absolute truth of Christ, but actually to flip the fact to this. And this is the flip – man is the absolute truth, and whatever an individual holds to as true cannot be denied. Even God needs to vary according to that truth. Then you would have the LGBTQ A2 plus agenda an opinion that, in a nutshell, argues. How dare you be so judgmental and discriminatory when God and Jesus Christ love us and accept our alternative lifestyle? Surely you, as a Christian, if you claim to serve the Lord Jesus Christ and says loving, surely you too should be loving and accepting of us. An author who has openly claimed to be a gay Christian – if there is such a thing – has made the following statement, so it isn’t gay Christians who are sinning against God by entering into monogamous loving relationships. It is the church that is sinning against them by rejecting their intimate relationship. You see, this statement points to the epitome of the fallen man’s displeasure with God and his height and highlights that Fallen Man’s drive to destroy God and to make him what he isn’t. Now there is one and only one reasons for these incorrect views that I’ve mentioned and these false teachings about God. And the only reason is this. They have denied the Lord Jesus Christ for who He is. Or what He came to do and what he is doing in the midst of man right now. So, to help you stabilise in your thinking, the fact that Jesus Christ is the only word become flesh, and the only Light I want to take you through the process of drawing 3 lines in the sand. Have you ever heard that term when you draw a line in the sand? And you don’t cross that line. That’s an absolute. That’s my line in the sand. Next time you’re on the beach or you find yourself in a in a bit of a sandy spot, think about this. Think about drawing a line in the sand and think about these three lines that I’m going to give you. So, the first line. Jesus Christ is God.
